THE DENVER DRILL

3/1/2025

This drill sometimes requires more personnel than are usually scheduled for a single shift. There are alternate versions to this as single firefighter rescue drills. Practice both if able. You can discuss having a shift stay over to practice with the fire chief and other shifts as needed.

Original Bread and Butter Training Video - DEPLOYING AND ADVANCING ATTACK LINE (Fire Engineering)

9/2/2022

It is crucial to be a well-trained nozzleman and attack crew. Often times the attack team is a team of two or less. This video goes into details of the crew. This is a classic by the late great Andy Fredericks of FDNY Engine 48 and later Squad 18 (LODD-9/11/2001).

Tactics have changed over the years which allows room for newer techniques in hoseline advancement that relieves the backup firefighter from being right up on the nozzleman, however, this is a great video to refer back to the classics.

MAIN POINT
The main thing to take away from this video is the fact that deploying and advancing a hoseline efficiently is important for those who we serve and their property.
